A
classic that only grandma could make. Although I have had the store bought
varieties, homemade is so much better. This is her old, old, old recipe. |
Ingredients:
Sift together:
4-1/2 cups of all purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cloves, nutmeg, and salt (each)
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Add:
2 teaspoons anise seeds
Combine:
4 eggs, beaten
2 cups firmly packed light brown sugarAdd dry ingredients and mix
well. If desired, dough maybe chilled. Shape dough with well
floured hands into balls the size of walnuts. Place on greased baking
sheet. Cover cookies with towel. Let stand over night. Bake
at 350 °F
for 20-25 minutes. Shake warm cookies a few at a time paper bag
containing confectionary sugar. When cold, store in a tightly covered
jar.
